“Media History and Cultural Memory” (XXIV International Conference on History and Media), University of Copenhagen, July 6-9, 2011,
organized by the International Association for Media and History (IAMHIST) in conjunction with the Department for Media, Cognition & Communication, Faculty of Humanities, the Centre for Bible and Cultural Memory, Faculty of Theology, University of Copenhagen, and the Historical Journal of Film, Radio & Television.
The first Call for Papers was issued in September 2010 with December 1st as initial deadline for abstracts. The term was later extended to January 12. The international Program Comittee met in Copenhagen January 13-15.
The interest in the Conference has been so great and so many abstracts submitted in the end that the Program Committee was not able to accept all of them if a workable and thematically coherent program be established with a sufficient time for each presentation and discussion. Some proposals did not fit well into the thematics of the conference and had to be left out. We are sorry for the scholars whose proposals we were not able to accept and hope to see them anyway at the conference as participants and discussants.
The program is still in preparation. Everybody who has submitted a proposal will get an answer – if somebody having sent us an abstract has received no answer by now, please remind us about it. The international program committee is going to meet next time in Copenhagen on May 9, then the program will be finalized and subsequently published on this website.
The venue of the Conference is University of Copenhagen, Southern Campus, Building 22, 106 Njalsgade, Copenhagen S. The campus is situated between Copenhagen Airport and Copenhagen Main Railway Station and easily accessible by public transportation – thus the Campus is close to the station “Islands Brygge” on the Metro of Copenhagen. The whole conference venue is accessible by wheel chair and all rooms are situatiated close to each other.
The conference fee will be $ U.S. 120 for IAMHIST members by payment before June 30 (alternatively 660 Danish Kroner or 90 €) for IAMHIST members. Non-members are paying $ 170 (930 DDK, 127 €) which includes one year’s IAMHIST membership with subscription on the Historical Journal of Film, Radio & Television and other member advantages. Payment at the Conference itself is possible in cash in all three currences at slightly increased rates ($ 130/180, DDK 720/990, € 98/135). Cash withdrawal is possible at the Campus itself.
The conference fee includes conference material, receptions and coffee/tea in the morning and afternoon breaks. Lunch and Dinner is not included but you can have a buffet lunch at reasonable prices in the campus cafeteria. The concluding Celebration Dinner is optional.
Accommodation: We can provide bookings at several hotels at different price levels – the most affordable is a hostel situated 10 minutes walk from the campus at the harbour beach of Copenhagen – a dormitory bed is available at 200 Danish Kroner per night including linen (app. $ U.S. 37). The conference administration has checked into a variety of hotels to find the best bargains for the period.
All inquiries and orders to the organizers of the conference should be sent by e-mail to iamhist2011@gmail.com The Bank Account of the Conference is Danske Bank 1551 0001197614.
